About Us

Science Olympiad is composed of the most hardworking, dedicated individuals here at Townsend Harris. We meet every Tuesday in rooms 642/643 to explore fields of science through our wide variety of offered events. With the help of all of our members, Townsend's Science Olympiad team has consistently ranked highly in New York City and New York State. We have been ranked first in the NYC Metropolitan Area for the ‘15-’17 seasons and the '21 season, and we have qualified for States every year since 2005. In the 2017 season, we won a record high 94 medals and placed 7th at the NY State Competition, earning over $10,000 worth of scholarships to Le Moyne College! In the 2019 season, we won another record high 102 medals and placed 8th at the NY State Competition. In 2020, despite a short season due to the pandemic, we earned 47 medals. In the 2021 season, we created yet another record, earning 118 medals in total, and we placed 2nd at the NY State Competition and 25th in the nation.

Subjects: Physics, Psychology

Hey everyone! I graduated from Townsend Harris in 2018 and I just finished my first year of teaching and coaching Science Olympiad. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was 14, and now I’m able to live out my dream job surrounded by people I love and care about. I teach physics (and psychology) and hope to give back to the community as much as possible. In addition to Science Olympiad, I also help coach the Robotics  Team, and I hope to get more involved with other aspects of the school. In the future, I really want to also open a cafe/restaurant as well as an animal shelter and counseling center.

I have truly loved my time here at Science Olympiad. It’s amazing to see so many people care about each other and strive to continuously be better. Each and every day the team makes me super proud, and I hope to make them proud as their coach too. This recent group of graduating seniors have done a great job leading this team and have really transformed it into a family. I know that this next generation will continue to do great things.

I love my job and Science Olympiad has become a huge blessing in my life. I appreciate everyone on the team and I’m excited to meet the new people who will join our family!
